Web Space

A WebPage can be thought of as a document on display that can be created and/or updated by a tool that is similar to a word processor called a WebPage editor. There are many WebPage editors with varying capabilities available on the market.

WebPages are popping up all over the Internet, whether for business or personal reasons. You may want a WebPage to advertise, and create a visual presence, for your business on the Internet. Others may wish to use their page to display content, which is of interest to them and others, such as hobbies, music, or family information.

Tamarack Computers offers free webspace to all customers witha an account of $25/month or more.

Once you have decided you want to set up a WebPage, you have a choice of 3 different types, each provide for certain customer needs.

1. Customer WebPage:

This is what most customers use for personal or small business use. All of Tamarack's customer accounts of $25/month or more have the option of keeping a webpage on our server. The webpage will be located at www.tamarack.nt.ca/webpages/yourname. You can use FTP to update your page from your own computer. All you have to do is request the space.

2. Virtual Website:

We can setup a website for you under the YK.COM domain. That means that you can have www.yourcompany.YK.COM and you don't have to register the domain name. With this address you can also receive your mail at yourname@yourcompany.yk.com. This is a cheaper alternative and is included in some of our business packages. Outside a package this will cost you from $50-100 per month.

3. Complete Domain WebSite:

This is a full registration of your website. We will register your name with InterNIC or CANET and you will receive a website address of yourchoice.com or yourchoice.ca You will be able to receive your mail or build your website around that address. Once registered, you can choose to have your webpage located on our server or on your own or on any combination. This will cost you from $100-$300 for startup and from $50 and up for hosting. (This is the most expensive but the most flexible)

Once you have signed up for a WebPage you have 2 options depending on the size and complexity of the page(s) you want to set up.

Designing your own WebPage:

There are a number of software packages on the market which you can use to create your own WebPages, one of which is Microsoft Front Page 98. This software is easy to use, and gives outstanding results. If you are using Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.01 you can also download Microsoft FrontPage Express, which is a scaled down version of FrontPage 98, but still works very well. Once installed and set up, these 2 programs automatically upload your files to your website, which is another nice feature of an all-in-one editor. One of the draw backs to using WebPage editors though is you don’t get to work extensively with the actual HTML coding that makes the page come together.

There are a number of books available on WebPage design, and you may also want to look on the Internet for tutorials, and other help sites.
